Linux, and other open source software, have been strongly fostered by the Brazilian government over the last years. Its utilization has called even more attention due to efforts done by the Brazilian Culture Minister, and the Brazilian Republic President himself. The Brazilian government recommends and fosters the Linux and other open source software adoption among all of its agencies, departments and organizations (http://blueoxen.com/paper/foss-adoption-in-brazil/).

However, this mass adoption of Linux and OSS by the government is just a result of an older movement that precedes it: the growing of the Brazilian Linux and OSS community. Back in the mid-1990s ordinary people managed to create users and study groups, and they started to do business in a very very small scale. Some of those people, in 1995, have founded the first private company focused on deliver a Linux distribution. This company was named Conectiva, and it became widely known all over Brazil and Latin America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conectiva).

Nowadays, Brazil has a wide and complex Linux ecosystem that embraces government agencies, privately held companies at all market segments, non-governmental organizations and a very huge number of users groups spread all over the country. However, despite OSS being widely used in Brazil, even after so many years the model of open source software development (and OSS business) is still not so understood by most Brazilian authorities, businessmen and end users. There still are those who see in OSS (specially in Linux) a way to cut costs off or just lower their budgets down. It seems that still lacks, to many of us, a better understanding about the way of development in OSS works and how to do business with it.

After a little break, I’m back to the writing activities.

Some days ago I’ve read a book called “Pragmatic Thinking and Learning” by Andy Hunt, and some message like “In order to get better performances writing, one must writes a lot, about everything. Even if that same one thinks he is writing useless and nonsense stuff” (forgive me Andy… I know you’ve wrote that in a far way better than I) have compelled me to start to write, again!

I also know that I’ve already wrote something like that (at my very first post here), but I have to retold you that I’ll be writing here about things related to my routine… So, as far as I can I’ll be posting more often here.

Well, I hope you can forgive me if you start to read useless and nonsense crap around here… I’m just following some good tips!

Is it real? According to Mr Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols it seems to be true. He wrote two very detailed articles in his blog at ComputerWorld. He also has mentioned other essays on the same issue in his posts.

IMHO I think it is worth to read and make your own conclusions about the facts.

Today when I was looking for some news at linuxjournal.com’s site I’ve read this article written by Shawn Powers. I really think that Shawn’s points are very good. If you work (or just have fun) with linux and enjoy it, you will see that it is a worthy reading! Take a break and read his article… I think that you will agree with him, just like me!

As I mentioned in my first post, wordpress.com was seriously threatened to be blocked here in Brazil due to a pre-trial judge.

The information is true (there is a trying to block web access to wordpress.com here). However I want to clarify that the blocking to entire wordpress.com domain wasn’t a decision from the judge as I said earlier, but technical misunderstandings from ABRANET, the organization that represents brazilians ISPs, to report to judge the alternatives to execute that specific blocking order.

The judge’s intention was only determinate the block of one specific blog that contained outlaw material. But ABRANET told that there wasn’t another way to accomplish it without to block entire wordpress.com

So justice have to be made, and the real stupid behavior was from ABRANET and not the judge!

Just another blog on the wordpress.com! I’ve choosen wordpress due to stupid behavior that some brazilian authorities have shown us at cases concerning google & orkut and wordpress.com (if you don’t know, there is some judges that are trying to block the web acess to wordpress.com here in Brazil). This is my first Blog (and my first post).

After some time, and some insistence from some friends of mine, I decided surrender me to the “world of the words” to register some interesting events here in the blog! Indeed I don’t know for sure what I really want to have registered here, but my initial purpose is start simply. As time will go on and as I will liking it, I will posting here more often, probably! But even now, with these first words, I still haven’t the main focus to my blog yet, however certainly I will be talking (writing) about issues that I really like and that are in my daily routine.

So, on that way, without big intentions I’m starting to blogging!
